Rock Hills hosts league band clinic

Musicians from 11 Northern Plains League schools met at the Rock Hills School, Monday, to participate in the leagues' annual band clinic. Monday evening a concert was open to the public.

Musicians from 11 Northern Plains League schools met at the Rock Hills School on Monday to participate in the league's annual band clinic. Two percussion ensembles were organized to play throughout the concert held Monday evening.

Musicians from five schools played individual numbers outside the mass band.

The Osborne students played "Too Beautiful For Words" by Grice; Lincoln students played "See You In September" as arranged by Mike Story; Sylvan Grove students played "The Thunderer March" as arranged by John Philip Sousa; Thunder Ridge students played "You're a Grand Old Flag and America, the Beautiful" as arranged by Mike Story; Rock Hills students played "Hawaii Five-O" as arranged by Doug Adams.

The mass band played four songs, "Hosts of Freedom," by Karl L. Kings and arranged by Paynter, "Rock, River, Tree" arranged by Michael Sweeney; "The Devil's Workshop" arranged by Kimberly Archer; and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" arranged by Michael Brown.

The NPL mass band was under the direction of Bill Schick a recently retired band director from Phillipsburg.

The NPL concert was held Monday at 6 p.m. Monday in the Rock Hills High School Gym.
