Former Texas officer joins Superior Police Department
February 13, 2020
Daryl Wilks is the newest addition to the Superior Police department. He brings an extensive background in law enforcement to the position. He retired from the Pflugerville, Texas Police department as a sergeant in January, 2020, with 32 years of service. Pflugerville is a city with a population of more than 63,000 residents and is a suburb of Austin.
He was sworn in as a Superior police officer by Chief Jill Allgood and has begun patrol duties. He will attend a short course at the police academy in the near future. Because of a reciprocity agreement between states, he will only need to take a four week course to familiarize himself with Nebraska, county and local statutes and laws.
Wilks, along with his wife Beth, purchased a house in Superior. The couple went searching for their ideal retirement home. Beth is originally from Lincoln and wanted to return to her home state. After viewing residences in other states, they stopped in Superior. The first house they viewed was what they were looking for. They made the purchase. Beth moved here while Daryl finished up his work in Pflugerville.
Wilks was born in Austin and attended Pflugerville High School. After graduation he worked in the construction field for a few years before making the decision to pursue a career in law enforcement. He paid his way through the police academy. He was hired by the Pflugerville Police Department in 1987. He served in numerous capacities over the course of his career. He was a K-9 officer, a horse patrol officer, spurs and all, a patrol officer, a detective and then supervisor of detectives. He was a member of the tactical team. He served as an instructor at the police academy as well as his own department.
Beth also pursued a career in law enforcement. She was born in Lincoln. Her family relocated to Texas when she was a child. She graduated from Round Rock High School. She began working at the Pflugerville Police Department as a dispatcher. She continued in this position for several years. Her abilities were noted by command officers and she was sponsored at the police academy. She and Daryl were the first married couple to serve in the department. The two met on the job and have been married for 24 years. The strain of working different schedules led Beth to pursue an opportunity with the Taylor, Texas Police Department. She began there as a dispatcher. She was the support service supervisor when she was retired in October, 2019. She earned an associates degree in mathematics from a community college in Temple, Texas. She plans to complete a bachelor degree as part of her future plans. Beth is employed as the office manager at ZFI.
Daryl had planned to retire. He introduced himself to members of the Superior Police Department on an earlier visit. This led to Wilks being offered a position with the department upon his retirement in Texas. His wealth of experience is a welcome asset for Chief Allgood.
The Wilks have settled into Superior living. They were attracted by the quality of life Superior has to offer and have not been disappointed.
