Lawrence-Nelson girls take top spot at tourney

The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team continued their unbeaten run with two more wins to secure the Twin Valley Conference championship title at Kenesaw, Saturday. The Raiders played Harvard, at Harvard, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time.

The Raiders cruised by Shelton, 42-29, last Thursday, to advance to the championship game. They handed Silver Lake, a team they had edged by three points earlier in the season, a lopsided 41-17 loss to take home the championship trophy. The wins gave the Raiders a 21-0 record.

Lawrence-Nelson owned a 24-9 lead at the half over Shelton and never looked back. The Raiders held Silver Lake scoreless in the first quarter while scoring 16 points themselves. They held a 29-4 lead at the half and were never challenged by Silver Lake.

Taylor Harrington led the Raiders offense against Shelton with 13 points. Karigan Drudik kicked in 10 points. Annie McCartney was good for nine points. Allison Miller added seven points. Hallie Epley scored two points. Elsa Jorgensen sank a free throw for one point.


Drudik, H. Epley and McCartney carried off five rebounds each. Harrington grabbed four rebounds. A. Miller had three rebounds. Emma Epley and Emily Miller nabbed two rebounds apiece.

Harrington put up 13 points against Silver Lake. McCartney contributed 10 points. Drudik anted up nine points. H. Epley poured through six points. E, Miller scored two points with E. Epley adding one point.

H. Epley collected eight rebounds. McCartney and A. Miller accounted for five rebounds each. Drudik landed three rebounds. E. Epley, Harrington and E. Miller pulled down two rebounds apiece.


The Raiders face their toughest test of the season in their final regular season game, Friday, when they host in-county rival Superior at Nelson. It will be a battle between the Raiders' quickness and the height advantage of Superior.

Sub-district play gets underway Monday or Tuesday with opponents and locations to be determined.
