With March just around the corner, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings will soon begin its annual blitz of spotter talks across south central Nebraska and north central Kansas. A total of 30 spotter talks are scheduled in March and April, one in each county served by the NWS Office in Hastings.

The spotter talks are free and open to public. Some of the presentation topics include: severe storm hazards,

severe storm structure, cloud-feature identification, safety information, basic meteorological terminology and services provided by the NWS.

All of the talks begin at 6:30 p.m. will last an average of about 90 minutes and use a combination for video, slides and lecture as the presentation method. Each talk will be led by a meteorologist from the NWS Hastings office. You don’t have to be a spotter or even want to be a spotter to attend. People with a general interest in the weather will find many of the topics interesting and informative.

Dates and locations are:

March 4: Phillips County, at the Fischer Building basement, Phillipsburg.

March 9: Jewell County, at the Mankato Community Center, Mankato.

March 10: Mitchell County, at the N.C. Kansas Tech. College conference room, Beloit.

March 11: Nuckolls County, at the Nelson Fire Department building.

March 17: Smith County, at the Nazarene Church, Smith Center.
