Feb. 1 was a fun weekend of Unleash the Beast PBR. Ivan and Leta Frost and grandson, Blaine Frost, drove to Kansas City, Mo. The top 35 bull riders in the world competed inside Sprint Center.

Union Chapel Bible Study met last Monday at the home of Teresa Shipley with all members present. The lesson was presented by Jean Davis. Kim Davis had devotions and Loreen Bird offered prayers for those mentioned.

Word has been received of the death of a former classmate, Wanda (Mills) Wyatt this past week.

Pastor Jon Harkness and Wanda Warner attended a church leadership conference in Manhattan on Saturday.

The Sunday morning worship service at Northbranch Friends Church opened with Pastor Jon welcoming each one, giving announcements and noting prayer concerns, followed by special prayer for these. Musicians were Erma Dillon and Becky McNichols. Serving as ushers were Tim Warner and Brad Jeffery.

Scripture from Galatians 6:4-6 was the text for Pastor Jon’s sermon entitled “Winning in God’s Eye.” Paul wrote to several of the churches in the Roman Empire challenging believers of that day as well as for today to test our own actions, not comparing to others. We are reminded that scripture tells us we will reap what we sow. We all wear masks – Jesus calls us to live an offensive life. It is important to spend time in God’s Word to know what our calling is. The challenge we have is to “keep going – to live up to our individual calling.” Open worship, as practiced by Quakers, is communion with the Holy Spirit and share what He calls us to share. Closing prayer dismissed the congregation.

Following the church service Sunday, Joyce McNichols and Erma Dillon dined together at the cafe in Burr Oak. It is always refreshing to see and visit with so many acquaintances there and enjoy a nice, large meal!
