Shelly Rae Harris, 67, the daughter of Nelson and Pauline Jane (Bernard) Harris, was born May 18, 1952, in Beloit, Kan. She died March 6, 2020 at Holiday Resort Health and Rehab at Salina, Kan.

Shelly attended school in Burr Oak, Kan., graduating from Burr Oak High School with the Class of 1970. She attended Fort Hays State University and graduated from Kansas State University.

Shelly owned a kennel business for many years, raising dogs. She had a great love of the outdoors, especially deer hunting and with her dad. She enjoyed working with children and was a Girl Scout executive in Salina, Kansas. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Burr Oak, an alumna of Kansas State University, a life member of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, and a member of the Emory Clemons American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263.

Shelly was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Jane Harris. Survivors include one aunt, Berniece Harris, many cousins, friends and her faithful companion of many years, her dog, Piper.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m., today (Thursday) March 12, from the First United Methodist Church in Burr Oak, with Pastor Les Ellis officiating.

Music will be “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Whispering Hope,” with Wylie Pumarlo as the vocalist and Carlita Price as his accompanist.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Pallbearers are Jim Harris, Jerry Harris, Elliott Harris, Mike Harris, Wyatt Harris and Morgan Harris.

Interment is in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Memorial contributions will go to the Ashby House or the Tammy Walker Cancer Center both in Salina, and may be addressed to the funeral home.
