Christopher Scott Johnson, Leon, Kan., was born Sept. 12, 1975, to Gary L. and Lynda Denise Johnson in Belleville. He died March 11, 2020 in Leon, at the age of 44 years, 5 months and 29 days.  

He was raised in Mankato and Hiawatha, graduating from Mankato High School in 1994. He lettered in both football and track. He attended Beloit Vo-Tech majoring in diesel mechanics. He was hired by Caterpillar, prior to finishing his education as recommended by the faculty being the top mechanic in his class.

Christopher enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing, and passed on that enjoyment to his children.

He had a dry sense of humor, was a hard worker, never gave up and cooked a delicious BBQ feast. He was a mechanical genius, a master electrician and a talented carpenter.

He married Angel Saunders on Jan 9, 1998, and to this union five children were born. Bridgette, Hunter, Ethan, Owen and Lily. They later divorced. He was engaged to Janelle Jones and together they had Addison Jo Johnson. His children were his pride and joy.


He is survived by his parents, Gary and Denise Johnson, Lawrence, Kan .; children, Bridgette (Mike Smith), Hunter (Jonny Hund), Ethan, Owen, and Lily; fiancé, Janelle Jones, Leon; brother, Jeremiah and Nicki Johnson, Cedar Falls, Iowa, sister, Betsey and Nick Gallinger, Lawrence, Kan .; nephew, Lane Johnson, nieces, Drew Johnson, Kate, Kylie and Karoline Gallinger; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Addison Jo, paternal grandparents, Floyd and Edna Johnson, and maternal grandfather, Richard Gile.


Kansas Public Notices

His funeral is at 2 p.m. today (Thursday), March 19, at West Campus – First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, Kan. The family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in his name to Christopher Johnson Children’s Educational Fund and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, Kan. 66044.
