Bloodmobile collects 53 units at Lawrene

Covid-19 doesn’t stop blood donors in Lawrence

Blood donors in south central Nebraska are sort of like the U. S. Postal Service . . . “Neither cold, snow, or this coronavirus shall stop the donors from their volunteer service.”

In any case, the Red Cross Bloodmobile made its first visit to Lawrence for the year on Thursday and local residents, plus a number from other localities turned out. It was a cold rainy and snowy day, but 53 units were collected, a successful drive. The Red Cross adhered to all the safety practices to protect donors and workers alike in this day of the coronavirus pandemic.

Coordinators, Jackie Kirchner and Maureen Menke expressed their thanks to all who assisted in this blood drive. That included the American Legion and men that set up and take down the site; also Jeannine Schendt and Karen Faimon and members of the Sacred Heart Altar Society for the canteen lunch; the Locomotive-Gazette and church bulletins for publicity and to Carla Kohmetscher and Mary Koch for their help. Mrs. Kirchner and Mrs. Menke gave a special thanks to all the donors and noted this time there were more “walk-ins” than normal, but they helped make the drive as successful as it was.

The next drive is Aug. 21, 2020.

A list of “gallon” mark donors was not available, but the donors included:
