COVID-19,access to records and new faces discussed at J.C. Commissioners Meeting

The Jewell County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. April 13, with commissioners, Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk were present.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, reviewed the billing and activity report for March. He discussed supplies and inventory. After going into executive session with Meier, the commissioners approved to write off $2,825.04 for the first quarter of 2020 for EMS.

Darrell Miller, county attorney, telephoned concerning access to the Jewell County register of deeds office. He said he had asked surrounding counties their process and they are allowing one person at a time with an appointment. Darrell said he telephoned the Jewell County register of deeds about allowing the same access. He said Amanda Davis was not in agreement. Darrell Miller said he informed Amanda Davis that if she was not going to allow access, he was contacting the county commissioners.


The minutes of the April 6meeting were approved.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, said they have the new vehicle in service. Kristi Westgate had started as full-time dispatcher and Jeremy Luedke is starting as a part-time deputy officer. A resolution for the commissary fund was discussed.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, and Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator, provided an update on the COVID-19 cases and reporting.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, had a right of way agreement for Nextech. The commissioners approved signing the agreement to bury cable along the right of way to cross 70 Road approximately 175’ North of Cedar Road. Greene said that the dirt roads need attention in the southern part of county.


Kansas Public Notices

The commissioners discussed with Amanda Davis, register of deeds, records accessibility to the public. They said entities need access to the records so they can complete their work. Amanda Davis said she wrote letters to the abstractors offering to perform research for them. The commissioners said the register of deeds office will allow individuals into the office by appointment as stated in Resolution 20-07.
