COVID-19 seems to have affected everything. For several weeks now, older citizens have been encouraged to stay home. Perhaps more than ever, having a home delivered meal is important, even if social contact is limited.

The Superior Senior Center kitchen housed at the Vestey Center and associated with Midland Area on Aging, continues to cook and deliver hot nutritionally balanced noon meals five day each week.

George Stierwalt and his wife, Lois, accept their noon meal and a bag of groceries from Jolanda Bouray, local manager of the Midlands Area on Aging. The senior center, located at the Vestey Center, is not serving congregate meals at this time because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, meals are still prepared everyday. Some are delivered and others delivered to curb-side outside the Vestey Center.

Each day, small aluminum trays are filled with the day's menu, covered and delivered using a specially designed heat chest, constructed to fit the trays. The chest plugs into a vehicle and keeps the food hot.

Some come to the Vestey Center for curb-side delivery. Other meals are delivered on foot throughout the Vestey Center and Superior Manor. Still others are delivered by van to the homes of those who have made arrangements for the service.

Last Tuesday, was special, because in addition to the meal, a homemade mask and a brown sack of groceries were delivered. Included were fresh fruits and vegetables and a loaf of whole grain bread, with a note to please not waste the food, but to share any surplus.

Jolanda Bouray, local Area on Aging manager, donned her mask and made the deliveries.

Meal count has been hovering around 30 each day and is down since congregate meal gatherings , were prohibited.

Stuck and home and wishing for something different to eat, call the Vestey Center and make arrangements for a home cooked style meal to be delivered to your house.
