Betty Katzenmeier

 

Betty Katzenmeier, 102, Ellsworth, died May 9, 2020 at Jewell County Long Term Care, Mankato.

Betty was born on March 1, 1918, in Lincoln, Kan., to Ernest and Caroline (Kruse) Obermueller. She was baptized on March 17, 1918, by the Rev. JH Hoyer and confirmed on March 20, 1932, by the Rev. H. Kroening. Betty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. She then attended Ellsworth Hospital Nursing School.

Betty married George Katzenmeier on October 9, 1938, in Lincoln, Kan. They were married 65 years, residing in Ellsworth, when George died in 2004. She worked at Ellsworth Medical Clinic for more than 30 years. Following retirement, she enjoyed cooking, baking, card clubs, sewing quilts and the Salina Journal daily crossword puzzle. She resided at the Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care since March 2017.

Betty was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.

Betty is survived by two of four children, Ron and Dave, both of Ellsworth; daughter-in-law, Eva of Abilene; as well as 11 grandchildren, including Vickie Zadina of Mankato, 35 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband George Katzenmeier, both parents, one brother, four sisters, son, Roy, daughter, Marion O’Brien, daughters-in-law, Barbara and Sheryl, great-grandson, Joey Zadina, and infant great-grandson, Brandon Clites.

A private family graveside service will be held at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. A public celebration of life service will be held at a date later this year.

Memorials in Betty’s honor may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, or Jewell County LTC Activities Dept, Mankato, Kansas and may be sent in care of Parsons Funeral Home, PO Box 45, Ellsworth, Kan. 67439.
