Commissioners discuss re-opening courthouse to public

Recently the Jewell County Sheriff's office received a grant which was used to purchase AED's. There is now an AED on each floor of the courthouse and in the Jewell County jail. A few of the Jewell County patrol vehicles have also been equipped with AED's in the event of a deputy arrives to a medical emergency before EMS.

The Jewell County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. May 11.Commissioners, Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe were present. Carla J Waugh,

county clerk also attended the meeting.

The commissioners discussed plans for re-opening the courthouse to the public.

Anna Porter, county appraiser, reviewed the re-inspection process.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, said they received AED's and installed some of them in the courthouse and patrol vehicles.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, provided an update on the COVID-19 cases and reporting. Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator, said Jewell County was gifted KN95 masks by the Patterson Family Foundation of Kansas City.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed equipment repairs.

Employment forms were approved by the commissioners for Eldon Dunstan and Donald Fraiser.

It was reported that Y Road was dramatically improved.

Darrell Miller, county attorney, telephoned to discuss the road closing descriptions and a resolution for the county's fee on liquor licenses.
