Superior offers plan to stretch shoppers' dollars

In this week’s edition of The Superior Express, the City of Superior announces a pandemic response program known as “Stretching Your Dollars.”

At last week’s meeting of the city council, the plan to utilize a portion of the revenue being collected by the city sales tax to promote retail sales within the community was approved.

Beginning Tuesday, the city office will offer for sale gift certificates which may be used at participating Superior businesses. At this time, it appears 50 or more businesses will participate in the program.

The gift certificates will be sold in increments of $25 but each will be worth $37.50 in trade. Certificates may be purchased with cash, check, debit or credit card. At the time of purchase, the receiving business where it will be used must be specified.

The certificates will be mailed to the purchasers within a week and each will be valid through Dec. 31 of this year.

Several maximums are associated with the program. The maximum amount of certificates one person can purchase is $1,000 ($1,500 in certificates.) The maximum amount one person can designate per business is $200 ($300 in certificates.) The maximum number of certificates one business can receive is 90.

The certificates must be used in their entirety, no change will be given.

The first certificates will not be valid until June 10.

The city has allocated a maximum of $25,000 to the program. The program will close when that amount is reached.

The purpose of the program is to add energy and enthusiasm into the city’s economy and lift up the spirits of area residents.
