35th Kansas 8 Man All Star games cancelled at Beloit

 


The 35th Annual Kansas 8 Man All Star Football games scheduled for Saturday, June 13, have been cancelled. Rock Hills High School was to have two participants- Rylee Whelchel and Colby Hamel.

Rylee Whelchel, Mankato, was selected for the Division II East Team. He is a 2020 graduate of Rock Hills High School. His football accomplishments and statistics include: Max Prep stats for 26 games: total rushing, 2,162 yds; all purpose, 4,299 yds.; carries, 194; total TD, 72; rushing yds per game, 83; 2017-18, Max Preps Player of the Week, NCKS Athlete of the Week; Topeka Capital Journal, All State Honorable Mention, running back, 2018; Wichita Eagle, All State Honorable Mention, runningback, 2018; All District 2nd Team runningback, 2nd Team linebacker, 2nd Team put returner, 2018; All District 1st Team runningback, 1st Team kick returner, 2019; Topeka Capital All State Honorable Mention runningback, 2019; Wichita Eagle All State Honorable Mention runningback, 2019.

Team achievements include: 2017: District Runner-Up, 1st round playoffs; 2018: District Champions, 2nd round playoffs; 2019: District Runner-Up.

Accomplishments and honors in other sports include: KSHSAA two time 100m dash qualifier, two time 4x100 relay qualifier; KEMFA: Squad Champion 2017, Overall State Champion 2017, 3rd Place Team 2017, Benchpress State Champion 2018, Squat Champion 2019, Runner-Up (individual) 2019.

Activities and honors outside of school include Rock Hills youth basketball coach, Sharp Performance youth football coach, St. Theresa’s CYO.

Hobbies and interests include hunting, carpentry and heavy equipment.

Activities and honors in school include Principal-Superintendent Honor Roll, FHSU Math Relays (2017), Cloud County Livestock Competition, FFA State, NCK Livestock Judging, FFA secretary and basketball.

Rylee’s parents are Kenneth and Katie Whelchel. He plans to join the National Guard and attend FHSU for athletic training and sports management.

Colby Hamel, coach at Rock Hills,was to coach in the 8 man All-Star game. This was his first year as Rock Hills’ head coach.

He enjoys being able to teach life lessons through the game of football and have the opportunity to be a positive role model and mentor to someone who may need it!

He lives in Courtland, with his wife and two girls, Aubrie June and Nova Rae.
