COVID explodes plans for 38th Firekracker Run

The Superior Firekracker Run is the latest event to become a COVID-19 casualty. Members of the Superior Joggers Club announced Monday that the event would not be held this year. It had been part of Independence Day Celebrations in Superior since 1983.

Sponsors said they didn’t see how they could hold the event and comply with the public health guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control.

Sponsors hope it can return next year.

Most years more than 400 participants would enter the various races which included a 10K and predict events.

Courses were laid out to give participants upclose views of Superior.

Members of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department are continuing to plan for the annual fireworks show that has concluded the day’s festivities.

Thus far we have not heard if other organizations are sponsoring activities that day. Often the day has included musical shows, food and games including sand volleyball, three-on-three basketball and water wars.
