FBLA wants to hold community service project at theatre

The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. board meeting was held at the Mankato Christian Church and called to order by Thadd Hinkle. Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Lisa Goodheart, Phyllis Christie, Chris and Jill Klos, Kristin Underwood and Sarah Ortman.  Sheriff Jacobs was a guest.

Lisa Goodheart read the minutes of the May meeting, and they were accepted as read. There was no Treasurer’s report.

Phyllis Christie said Rick Nyland from Phillipsburg charged the fire extinguishers. Chris Klos said he is working with Trevor Elkins on insurance coverage for the theater building.  Discussion was held on who actually owns the contents of the building. Chris will research this with the City. The members discussed the ice cream social. Lisa Goodheart said she has not heard from the school in reference to the event paperwork, so she will check on that.

A discussion was held on the S.A.F.E. “dinner and a movie” event to be held at the VFW hall.  Sheriff Jacobs said the Jewell County Hospital will provide the meat, the historical society will provide condiments and the VFW Auxiliary will provide desserts.  He will find an organization to provide the water.  Janis McDill will search for a family-friendly movie to show.  Because of conflicts with other events in the county, the date was changed to Aug. 8. Sheriff Jacobs will attend the July 27 meeting to go over the details.

The board decided to hire Marty Zadina to clean the theater carpet. Kristin Underwood said FBLA would like to sponsor a movie as a community service project. They would like to charge a nominal fee per person with the money going to the theater. The dates chosen are July 14, 15 and 16. Janis will see about getting the license for the Blu-Ray version of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”  Phyllis will check the supplies for concessions. Jill Klos moved to allow the FBLA to sponsor this event, contingent on JCCI being able to license the movie. The FBLA will be required to fill out a request for use form and pay a deposit.

The next meeting will be July 27.
