Nuckolls County Historical Society meet July 13

The monthly board meeting of the Nuckolls County Historical Society was held Monday, in Pioneer Hall with 11 board members present. Steve Renz and Fred Meyers conducted the meeting. Minutes of the March 9 meeting were read and approved. There were no meetings held during April, May or June.

Nancy Meyers, curator, reported people must be cleaning out their closets or going through their storage boxes during the pandemic. A few phone calls received were from people wanting to donate relatives’ records, photographs and documents. One in particular was Elizabeth Hafford Juarez from California. Elizabeth donated a hard bound book: “Nebraska Hanthorn Family Round Robin Letters 1935 -1996.

Dereck Kirchhoff completed his preservation project on the log cabin-post office. The board members expressed their thankfulness and admiration for a project well done.

The technology committee discussed the latest information on beginning a new updated website for the museum. The building and ground committee reported painting on the church and school house should begin July 27.

Kelly Bouray was accepted to fill the office of treasurer vacated by Kelly Schroer. Kelly Schroer resigned from her office and as a board member in June. Schroer will be missed as she volunteered many hours of her time and talents for the museum. (A side note from a previous meeting, Jean Keifer resigned from the museum board as well. Jean was a long time valuable member who dedicated many hours to the advancement of our historical society).

Another item discussed at the board meeting was museum closure during the pandemic. After a lengthy discussion supplied with many possible options, the board decided to keep the museum closed until Jan. 11, 2021. Board members will reassess the COVID-19 virus conditions at that time.

The meeting was adjourned until Aug. 10, unless otherwise noted. To contact the museum, call 402-879-4144; by mail 612 East Sixth Street, Superior, Neb. 68978; by email [email protected].
