Plans for Highway 36 Treasure Hunt are underway

Seven Mankato Chamber of Commerce members were present for the July regular monthly meeting held July 8 at Bob’s of Mankato.

An update about the community garden was given. Phyllis Christie said

Steve has planted two plots of sweet potatoes that will be “you-pick” plots when the crop is ready. When the potatoes are ready to be harvested, they will be marked off and advertised.

The Highway 36 Treasure Hunt will take place as usual this year. In the past

booths have been spread out enough that they will comply with the social distancing guidelines. The event will take place Sept. 16 through 19. Any one wanting to advertise their garage sales should contact Jason Ortman with details and address of their garage sale. He will then use Google Maps to make a map of all the garage sales in Mankato and send it to the Highway 36 Treasure Hunt website as well as distribute them around town. Jason will also contact the city about using the armory for the Garage Sale Mall.

The Ute Theater Bingo fundraiser will take place Aug. 15. In place of the hot dog feed in the fall, the chamber will join their fundraiser. Haley Nelson

and Phyllis Christie will talk with Ute Theater board members to finalize details and then inform the chamber of them.

Sara Reiter reported Santa’s Workshop was approved for a grant. The grant will be used to purchase supplies for the event. She said the group will have a meal fundraiser at the Mankato Park Aug. 1, after the Wine Walk.

Jason Ortman brought to the group’s attention the money in the budget for the blood mobile needs to be allocated. The chamber budgeted $100 and it will be sent to Susan Abel.

The Rock Hills High School FBLA will be holding a movie at the Ute Theater July 14 through 16. The movie will be Indiana Jones and tickets will be $1.

Haley Nelson will be taking pictures of businesses that need a new picture for the website.

The next meeting will take place Aug. 12, at Bob’s of Mankato.
