Jerome Mazour

 

Jerome Donald Mazour, 91, the son of Lester and Mary (Faimon) Mazour, was born May 12, 1929, in Fairfield, Neb. He died July 19, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society facility at Superior, after staying the last 14 months there.

Jerome lived in Nuckolls County his entire life. He was baptized and confirmed at the Assumption Church in Deweese. While growing up on the farm, he attended country school at Shiloh District 12 through the eighth grade, and Nelson Public Schools, graduating from Nelson High School in 1946. After high school, he attended and graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce.

He was inducted into the United States Air Force on Dec. 29, 1950, and was honorably discharged on Dec.17, 1954, serving during the Korean War.

Jerome was united in marriage to Betty Miller on April 30, 1957, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Lawrence, Neb. This union was blessed with five children. They raised their family in Nelson where he was employed as the office manager for South Central Public Power District for 44 years retiring in 1994. A little more than four years ago they moved to Superior.

He was a 50 year plus member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson, actively serving as lector and was installed as an acolyte in 1986. He also served as a CCD teacher for many years. He was proud of all of his family and enjoyed going to all the activities they were involved in. After retirement, Jerome and Betty enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Canadian Provinces, Rome, Italy and France by car, bus, plane, Amtrak or whatever was needed. The 50th state, they went to was Hawaii which coincided in the year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mary Mazour and his in-laws, Levi and Josephine Miller; son-in-law, Greg Lohaus; brothers-in-law, Glen Hulet, Vincent and Eugene Miller and Bill Rowley; two sisters-in-law, Joan Miller and Helen Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Superior; children, Richard (Deb) Mazour of Lincoln; Daniel (Linda) Mazour of Franklin; Mary (Kevin) Furey of Omaha; John (Kayleen) Mazour of Albion; and Donald (Deb) Mazour of Lincoln; 22 grandchildren: Laura (Brandon) Patocka, Hannah (Atsu) Adeponu, Paige (John) Lancaster, Shannon (Stephen) Holdren, Jessilyn (Kyle) Larson, Rachel (Jason) Tisthammer, Colton, Tanner, Wyatt (Dana) Mazour, Darrick (Eryn) Mazour, Cari, Brenna and Anna Mazour, Allison McKamy, Nicole, Katelyn and Jeremy Lohaus, Ryan (Julie) Furey, Sean (Kate) Furey and Megan Furey, Alexis and Autumn Kess; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Adrian (Connie) Mazour of Norfolk; sisters-in-law, Bernice Miller, Rita Miller, Rose Rowley of Superior and Marg Hulet of Montague, Michigan; and brothers-in-law, Alfred (Agnes) Miller, Wilfred Miller of Superior, Bernard Miller of Shickley; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. today (Thursday), July 23, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Superior, with Fr. Boehme officiating and Arnold Miller as lector.

Music is "On This Day O Beautiful Mother," "How Great Thou Art," "At That First Eucharist," and "Let There Be Peace On Earth," with Ivan and Mike Miller providing the music.

Visitation was held at 5 p.m., Wednesday with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Colton Mazour, Tanner Mazour, Wyatt Mazour, Derrick Mazour, Jeremy Lohaus, Ryan Furey and Sean Furey. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters.

Interment is in the St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence, Neb.

Memorials are suggested to go for Masses or in care of family for a later designation.
