Brodstone Hospital employees donate record amount

August 6, 2020

Brodstone Memorial Hospital employees donated the equivalent of 8,950 pounds of food to the Nuckolls County Food Pantry this week as part of the Can-Care-A-Van Food Drive. Jon Albrecht (center), Pastor of the Living Faith Fellowship, assisted the food bank in collecting donations. Brodstone Memorial Hospital employees donated a record 8, 950 pounds to the Nuckolls County Food Pantry through the Can-Care-A-Van on Monday. A little friendly competition helps make donations swell. In the past years there were car races, baseball and football games. This last week it was a hockey game. Donations are tallied by the pound, a cash donation of one dollar equaling two pounds.

This year's winners were the "Mighty Ducks," a team coached by Jason Hamilton and team captain, Cody Fierstein. Team members included employees from the lab, maintenance and pharmacy department. In second place were the "Brodstone Stars," staff members from the business office, cardiopulmonary, social service, human resource and Thrive center departments.

Employees were creative this year. A raffle was held for several items including a "COVID-19 Survival Kit" which included toilet paper, movies and masks. There was also a duck race, arm wrestling competition and pie in the face contest.

Donating to the Food Pantry through the Can Care-A-Van has become a tradition at Brodstone. With a record amount donated this year, their 16-year total is more than 80,000 pounds. Treg Vyzourek, hospital CEO, commended employees for their donations when he wrote, "Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. I am so proud of the giving spirit that is in abundance here at Brodstone. This truly demonstrates our mission: Compassionate. Dedicated. Unified. We care for you!"
