Vernon Yung

Vernon Paul Yung, 62, was born Jan. 4, 1958, in Superior, to Russell and Hilda (Keller) Yung and died at his residence Aug. 12, 2020.

Vernon lived on the family farm in rural Guide Rock until six years old. He then moved to Martin Luther Home Society in Beatrice where he received special school and training for life skills. At 18, Vernon moved to Hastings and resided there the rest of his life. Through

great friends and caretakers of Mid-Nebraska Individual Services,Vernon enjoyed various jobs and community events over the last 44 years. Vernon was also a loyal member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Vernon participated in multiple sports through Special Olympics Nebraska; some of which were swimming, bowling and track. Vernon was a devoted Huskers and Hastings Broncos fan. He enjoyed watching sports, television, and would occasionally feel like dancing. He took great pride in being an usher at Sunday morning church services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Vernon had a contagious, joyful spirit and enjoyed a good meal with family and friends.

Vernon is survived by his sister, Wilda Leisy (Darrel) of Atkinson;and brothers, Gordon Yung (Teressa) of Holdrege and Byron Yung (Brenda) of Lincoln, Neb., and many nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings.

A graveside service was at 1 p.m. at Guide Rock Cemetery in Guide Rock.
