Five patrol cars damaged by hail

The Jewell County Commissioners met Monday, Aug. 17, at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe were present. Carla J Waugh, county clerk was also present.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, discussed storm damage from the hail storm on Aug. 14.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, said five patrol cars were damaged in the hail storm. He reported Hunter Burger’s last day will be Aug. 19. Jacobs said he has placed an advertisement to sell the Durango by sealed bids.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed storm damage. Steve Greene discussed various roads in Erving Township that need maintenance. Keith Roe said that Ervin Underwood reported R Road between 90 and 100 roads needs repair. Elkins said they already have one-call scheduled to check for utilities to repair R Road.

Chairman Fleming opened the 2021 county budget hearing at 10:10 a.m. for comments. Amanda Davis, register of deeds, was present. The 2021 county budget was adopted unanimously.


Kevin Peroutek, emergency preparedness director, reviewed the summary of the reimbursement report and direct aid report (the planned-expected county expenditures) that was submitted August. 14 for Spark Funding. Peroutek discussed the hail storm.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, reported on the 14th positive case for COVID-19, with two active cases and some in quarantine. She said they toured the schools to determine social distancing and the school’s plan for sanitization.

The minutes of the August 10 County Commissioners meeting and Board of County Canvasser meeting were approved.
