The 2020 Superior High School Volleyball season has begun. Coach Kelsea Blevins said her squad is a really strong group of "talented team players." The scrimmages in practice have been very competitive. The girls are excited about a "new" team; half of the members are returning starters and half never played in varsity match.

Coach Blevins said, "This was the best summer of training ever." The team attended open gym and weights Monday through Friday all of June and July. The team was divided into two groups so the coaches could give members more one-on-one time or small group time. They took two teams to a team camp held at Seward High School. The varsity team played against multiple C-1 schools. They were excited to play Columbus-Scotus because former SHS athlete, Alex Meyer, is an assistant coach there. They planned to go to a second team camp in July but the state cancelled because of COVID.

COVID will also control whether the team will have to wear masks. This will depend on the location of each school. If the school is in an "orange" zone, masks are optional. But if the school is in a "yellow" zone, everyone but six players on the court have to wear masks.

There are 25 players out this season. Returning starters include: Shayla Meyer, outside hitter; Sierra Blackburn, setter in the back row and ride side hitter in the front row; Cailyn Barry, middle blocker; Alexa Cox, middle blocker, she played right side hitter in 2019.

The team will be running a 6-2 offense again this year with Sierra Blackburn and Ella Gardner as the setters.

The team hosted Exeter-Milligan to their Jamborie match on Monday. Tonight (Thursday) they travel to Grand Island Central Catholic. The matches will begin at 4:30 p.m.
