Mankato's swimming pool is under repair

September 3, 2020

The City of Mankato has begun the refurbishment of the swimming pool.  The contractors doing the work will be sandblasting the entire pool down to bare metal, repairing, priming and coating the entire pool. This will ensure swimmer safety and have it ready for the citizens to enjoy next spring.

There will be noise from the sandblasting from about 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. each day including Saturday and Sunday.  The contractors estimated the work will take two to three weeks to complete.

According to the contractors the coating on the pool will last from 15 to 20 years saving the city money and labor each year. Staff will not be required to paint the pool each year. It will only need a good cleaning each spring.  It is thought the mayor and council’s decision has prolonged the life of the pool, improved the aesthetics, greatly enhanced safety for the bathers and prevented the pool from closing permanently. This will potentially give the city ample time to save and plan for a new pool in the future.

If you have any questions regarding the project please call the city administrator at 785-378-3141.
