Wallace Holthaus

Wallace V. Holthaus, the son of Herman E. and Emma L. (Bangert) Holthaus, was born March 5, 1922, on a farm in Nuckolls County, Neb. He died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020, at the Blue Hill Care Center, in Blue Hill, Nebraska at the age of 98 years.

Wally attended country schools in Nuckolls and Webster counties and graduated from Eckley High School in 1940. He joined the United States Army in 1942 and was stationed in England during WWII, serving in the airborne division as a member of a glider assembly unit. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Nebraska where he began work with Maxon Construction Company, one of the major building contractors at the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot. In 1947, Wally and his brother, Wayne, relocated to Dayton, Ohio, where Maxon was constructing the O.H. Hutchins generating station for the Dayton Power and Light Company. Wally was united in marriage to Elizabeth R. Luebber of Bellevue, Ky., on Sept. 10, 1949. Upon completion of the power plant in Dayton, the couple moved to the Cincinnati, Ohio, area where Wally began his career with the General Electric Company, Aircraft Engine Division, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Wayne; sister, Patricia; his wife of 56 years, Betty; and his only child, David.

Survivors are his daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Holthaus of Grand Island; grandchildren, Katherine Lanza of Gilbert, Ariz.; Alexander and Crystal Holthaus of Saint Joseph, Mo.; Elizabeth and Sean Kuttner of Palisade, Colo.; Robert and Amber Holthaus of Saint Paul, Neb.; sister Virginia Kral of Bladen; 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Following a private service, Wally will be entombed at Saint Stephens Cemetery in Fort Thomas, Ky., alongside his wife, Betty.
