Road crew will have new salt spreader for winter

September 24, 2020

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting at the county courthouse, Nelson, Monday. All three commissioners were present.

The agenda was light. The board approved the purchase of a salt spreader for the county road department. The spreader will be placed in the bed of a dump truck which is equipped with a snow plow.

The board heard from Andrew Brittenham, City of Superior utility manager. He advised that power would be curtailed for four-hour period in early November to the Superior water tower. The outage will impact the county repeater mounted on the tower. The structure is undergoing a routine inspection. He also reported that a proposal would be placed before the Superior City Council lowering the speed limit on East First Street, near the Superior East Aurora Co-op elevator, from 35 miles per hour to 15. The move is being made to mitigate dust issues which plague the area in dry conditions. Visibility on the road is affected and the thick dust raises quality of life issues for area residents.

The board approved the renewal of the county’s Catastrophic Inmate Medical Insurance plan. This policy reimburses the county for excessive medical expenses which may be incurred by prisoner while in jail.

The board will meet Monday, Oct. 5, at 8:30 a.m. for their regularly scheduled meeting.
