September 24, 2020

Lawrence-Nelson Raider teamwork stops a Blue Hill drive on the Raider four-yard-line midway through the second quarter. The Raiders have a number of great defensive plays. Pictured are Keith Miller (36) (at the bottom of the pile,) Wyatt Hajny (72), Krayton Kucera (14) and Cole Troudt (12) - in the back.

It wasn't a pretty night for the L-N Raider football team Friday night. Don't get me wrong, the weather was great. The result of the game just wasn't very great to the Raider team and fans as Blue Hill managed to come out with a 33-6 victory.

Over all, the game was not a thing of beauty as penalties played a big role in the outcome. The Raiders had the flag 11 times for 103 yards of penalties; Blue Hill was flagged ten times for 95 yards. Both team had four fumbles, L-N lost three and Blue Hill lost just one.

The teams exchanged possession of the ball early in the first quarter, but Blue Hill managed to score with just over a minute left in the period. Quarter score: 0-6.

In the first period each team had possession two times. In the second period, each team had possession four times. Blue Hill scored early in the period and then again, with 1:30 left on the clock before half time.

L-N used that last minute and a half to score. They passed the ball seven time for their only scoring drive of the game. They scored on a nine yard Keith Miller run, only to see it called back because of a penalty. However, on the next play a 20 yard Krayton Kucera pass to Keith Miller did score with 0:12 left on the clock. Half time score: 6-18.

It all starts up front . . . Initial contact on any play in football begins as the linemen attempt to make blocks for the running backs, or (on defense) to stop the opposing team. Getting a running start are Wyatt Hajny (72); Konner Thompson (56) and Blake Wroughton (80).

Blue Hill scored once in each the third and fourth periods. L-N had trouble getting any offense going. They did move the ball at the end of the game, picking up 33 yards on eight play, but the drive was stopped with a fumble.
