Edgar spur repairs fail to meet expected standard

October 8, 2020

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting, Monday, at the county courthouse in Nelson. All three commissioners were present.

The county road department reported that the core samples taken from the Edgar spur repaving project showed some defects in the base. The contractor is responsible for remedying the defects. The repair work may require legal action to enforce. Work cannot begin before spring as the hot mix plants are closed for the season.

The board is undertaking action to enforce the county mowing statutes. The board reminds property owner they are responsible for mowing the ditches. In addition to mowing, it is also the landowner’s responsibility to remove any trees.

The board adjourned and reconvened as the board of equalization. The board approved the 2020 taxing district levies.

County residents are now able vote in person at the courthouse. The county clerk’s office is not set up for in-person voting. The ballot drop-off box is also available outside near the north entrance.

The courthouse will be closed, Monday, Oct. 12, for the observance of Columbus Day.

The board will meet Monday, Oct. 19, for their next scheduled meeting.
