The Eagle Scout Board of Review recently approved Dereck Kirchhoff,Superior. Dereck's Eagle Scout project was preservation of the original Nuckolls County Post Office in Superior.

I started my scouting career in 2011 and attended my first camp in 2014. I went camping at Camp Augustine from July 11 through 13, 2014. I received my Arrow of Light on March 9, 2016. After transitioning from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts I started climbing the ranks. On Aug. 10, 2016, I became a Tenderfoot, and on Nov. 9, 2016, I obtained the Second Class Rank.

I went to my second camp from July 18 through 24, 2017, at Camp Hansen; I earned seven merit badges. On Sept.13, 2017, I received the First Class Rank. I went to my third camp from June 15 through 18, 2018 at Camp Hansen; I earned six merit badges. On March 24, 2018, I received the Star Rank. I was honored to be asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the Remembering our Fallen Memorial on July 13 and 15, 2018.

I raised the flags at every home football game in 2018. On Aug. 11, 2018, I earned the Order of the Arrow. On September 26, 2018, I obtained the Life Rank. On July 4, 2019, I helped lead the ceremony for the erection of our Eagle Scout Monument.

I started my Eagle Scout project on Aug. 4, 2019, and finished my project on July 6, 2020.

Throughout my career in Boy Scouts, I have learned how to be a good leader, and what it means to be a productive member of society. Scouting has also taught me to be kind and helpful to other people and not expect anything in return, and that sometimes you can can get your point across to other people with very little words.
