JC Commissioners decide to keep retirement system

The Jewell County Commissioners met Oct. 12. Commissioners Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, were present for the meeting.

Nancy Marihugh, health administrator, provided an update on the COVID-19 cases in Jewell County and surrounding counties.

The commissioners discussed the fiscal impact of switching the sheriff and ambulance departments from KPERS to KP&F. It was determined the county will not make changes to the retirement system.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, said they are working on bridges and tubes. Commissioners discussed road concerns.

Darrell Miller, county attorney, discussed preparing the documents for transfer of the clinic property.

Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator, provided update on the SPARK grant funding. He said some of the items ordered have been delivered and placed into operations. Peroutek said the first SPARK report was completed and submitted by the due date. He said the EOC grant was approved but the funds had not arrived.

Jeremy McGuire, group enrollment representative of BCBS, reviewed the annual health insurance renewal for the current policy with no changes. The commissioners approved to renew the contract with BCBS for 2021.
