Alan Davis

After the promotion of the last office assistant, the City of Mankato hired Alan Davis to fill the position. Davis has worked in various office positions throughout his life, giving him approximately five years of experience in this field.

Davis graduated from Mankato Junior-Senior High School. He then received his associates of applied science in advanced computer and information technology degree from North Central Kansas Technical College (NCKTC) in Beloit.

In his free time, Davis can be found playing video games with his two children, 9-year-old Alexander and 11- year -old Aerilyn. Davis met his wife Amanda while attending NCKTC. His wife is the Jewell County register of deeds. They have been together for a total of 15 years.

Davis has a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur, IT professional, forklift operator, machinist, journalist and general laborer. "I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none," Davis said. Davis' new responsibilities include answering phones, taking and recording payments in city accounting software and helping his co-worker, Alora.

Davis chose to live in Mankato because he likes the school. He believes his children will have a better experience here than they would have had in Kansas City where the Davis family used to live. He is happy to support his wife in her career, which she loves. His favorite part of living and working in a small town is the short commute.

"I'm a pretty introverted person, so it hasn't affected my life like many other people," Davis said about COVID. "I'm frugal and enjoy my time at home."

Davis enjoys the personalities and banter from his co-workers at the city office. He believes the hardest part of his job is having no experience in professional accounting. He also believes understanding and applying the best practices for different aspects of the business can be challenging. "I enjoy a good challenge though," Davis said.

Davis is inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of people like Elon Musk and the creative spirit of musicians like Dave Grohl.
