Steve Kirchhoff, a Hardy native and a 1995 graduate of Superior High School, was recently promoted from major to lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. The promotion ceremony was conducted Nov. 12 at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. The ceremony was presided over by Maj. Gen. Pete Gallagher, director of the army's Network Cross Functional Team. Maj. Gen. Gallagher provided opening comments recapping Kirchhoff's career and highlighting the important work he is doing.

Gallagher and Col. Rob Ryan then pinned on the new rank before Gallagher administered the oath of office.

During his remarks, Kirchhoff expressed his appreciation to his teammates and leadership for their dedication and to his parents, Glenn and Joan, for all the support they have provided. Lt. Col. Kirchhoff was joined at the small, socially distanced ceremony by his wife, Dr. Vanessa Bundy, while his parents and other family members were able to view the event live online.

Kirchhoff has served more than 18 years in the army. He is currently on the army's network cross functional team which is working to speed the delivery of communications technology to soldiers in the field. He focuses on radio networks and air-to-ground integration.
