BNSF RR making crossing upgrades

Workers from the BNSF Railway were at work, Monday, replacing the west grade crossing at the Aurora Co-op's Superior East facility. The crossing was badly deteriorated. Work had been scheduled for the first week of in November. An explosion and fire at the facility necessitated a delay in the work. The crew removed the crossing material and prepared the site Friday. They installed the new crossing Monday and it was ready for use on Tuesday. The railway has also completed the installation of more than seven miles of welded rail west of Superior to milepost 179.

When it comes to railroad divisions, Superior's First Street is a dividing point for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. There has long been a sign on railroad property near the intersection of First and Hartley welcoming BNSF crews to the Nebraska division.

While Superior is now in the railroad's Powder River Division the dividing line still exists.

While a Powder River Division crew this week was installing a new crossing which takes truck traffic to the Superior East elevator, a Kansas crew was installing a new crossing at the west edge of Courtland.
