Mask mandate to be followed until rescinded

The Jewell County commissioners met Nov.23 with commissioners Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe were present. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, also attended the meeting.

Steve Greene wasre-appointed as Jewell County representative on the Pawnee Mental Health Board.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed maintenance. Darrell Miller, county attorney, discussed the resolution for price of rock to be sold. Steve Greene checked on the status of the tube by Phillip Esslinger’s property.

Miller was asked about the procedure for a coroner ordered autopsy and who gets the report. Miller explained it is governed by state statute and explained the process.

Miller discussed Governor Kelly’s Executive Order 20-68 (mask mandate), but said Jewell County is currently governed by Executive Order 20-52. Miller said the county should follow Executive Order 20-52 until Executive Order 20-68 becomes effective. The commissioners agreed Jewell County will continue to follow Governor Kelly’s Executive Order 20-52 until 12:01 a.m. on Nov.25, at which time Executive Order 20-68 becomes effective and will remain in force until rescinded.

Nancy Marihugh, health director, said Jewell County has had 20 new positive COVID-19 cases with 22 active in the prior week. She also explained mask and modified quarantine restrictions.

Judge Cudney telephoned to discuss the district court’s placement of a document drop box at the Jewell County Courthouse. Carla Waugh and Brenda Eakins asked about the district court’s drop box. Darrell Miller asked about funding for the jurors’ safety.
