RHHS basketball opener postponed

The Rock Hills High School boys and girls basketball teams had their season openers pushed back because of COVID-19. They were scheduled to open play in the Thunderbird Classic against Pike Valley at Mankato, Friday.

The teams were scheduled to play at Cloud County, Saturday, with opponents to be determined, but the event was cancelled.

The Grizzlies will attempt to open their season, Tuesday, when they host St. John’s-Tipton at Mankato.

The Board of Directors of the KSHSAA voted to begin the winter activity competition season Dec. 1 and continue through Tuesday, Dec. 22, before taking a winter moratorium for practice and competition (no practice and no competition) beginning Dec. 23.

Spectators will not be allowed at venues from Dec. 1, 2020 through January 28, 2021 at which time further steps will be decided. All participants, including, but not limited to athletes, coaches, officials, spectators, support staff and all others attending or participating in school activities are required to wear a face covering in the manner in which it is intended to be worn while at the venue and for the duration of the event. The only exception is provided for athletes during the time they are competing and for officials during active play. Local health guidelines shall prevail.


High school teams may participate in a maximum of 20 games. Middle schools are limited to 16 games.

Schools may not pipe in fan noise during games. Pep bands may play.
