Nelson American Legion hosts special presentation
December 17, 2020
At the joint meeting of the Legion, SALS and Auxiliary held on Dec. 10, a Quilt of Valor was presented to Nelson resident, David Ankron. The quilt was designed and presented by Sandra Larkey of the Lost Needle Quilters of Nelson and was lovingly stitched by its members. Dave served the country from 1991 to 2001 and was an I Corp member during the Gulf War. He also served the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia. Dave is a valued member of the Nelson American Legion, and expressed his pride in serving and gratitude for this recognition.
Short business meetings of the groups covered upcoming events including the District 10 Convention in Alma on Feb. 22, grant application, and assisting in gathering items for the school's Backpack program.
The women then began dividing the cookies they had brought into plates to be delivered to local older veterans and family members. Some of the gentlemen assisted in this process but had to be watched carefully to keep them from too much sampling! Plates were delivered by Chuck and DeAnna Tuttle and Bill and Pam Riley the following day, bring as much pleasure those delivering as to the thankful recipients.
