The new Mankato City Park sign was funded by a Dane G. Hansen Grant,

Mankato's City Park sign replacement was suggested by the Mankato city administrator and approved by the mayor and city council to enhance the park's appearance and allow citizens to be proud of their community. A Dane. G. Hansen Grant application was submitted in August. It was approved in September.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was suggested by the Mankato city administrator and approved by the mayor and city council. The grant was submitted in October and approved November .

This will be the first Christmas tree lighting for Mankato. The mayor and council agree it should be an annual tradition for the citizens of Mankato and the Jewell County. Christmas is a special time of year to think about family present and past. Community residents are excited about the event. Many volunteers want to make it even better next year. Children are special to the community and the Christmas tree lighting will boost the spirits of these children and the community. The mayor and governing body have thanked the Jewell County Community Foundation and the greater Salina Foundation for making the citizens lives more enjoyable in Mankato and Jewell County.
