Wildcats defeat Blue Hill 54 to 45

Thursday night the Cats had their home opener playing Blue Hill. Superior started slow again trailing the Bobcats 14 to 8 after the first quarter. Blue Hill began the second quarter extending their lead. The Wildcats cut into that lead trailing 26 to 22 at half. Superior started playing a 1-3-1 defense early in the third quarter helping them to tie the game at the end of the third. Superior gained and maintained the lead in the fourth quarter earning their first win of the season 54 to 45!

The big difference in the ball game was the free throw line. Superior shot 18 of 25, making 11 of 14 in the fourth quarter alone. Some clutch free throws late came from Jedd Whitmore and Conner Blackstone. Blue Hill was 10 of 18 from the line. "I am very proud of the grit this team showed. We had guys stepping up making free throws, boxing out, running and contesting shots. Jedd Whitmore hit a huge baseline jumper late. Guys stepping up and hitting free throws late was great to see," Coach Chadwell said. The scoring was led by Conner Blackstone with a career high of 18. Jedd Whitmore added a career high of14. Dane Miller chipped in 9. A.J. Leibel scored 7, Zeke Meyer scored 5 and Seth Schnakenberg scored 1. Rebounding was led by Leibel with 7. Superior faced Wilber-Clatonia Saturday afternoon at home.
