Nuckolls Co. board fills extension board vacancy

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting at the county courthouse in Nelson, Monday. All three commissioners were present.

The board worked through a light agenda.

With the conclusion of the railroad crossing project at the Superior East facility, the board returned to implementing the original resolution regarding traffic usage of County Road B and 3900.

The board adjourned to meet as the Board of Equalization. They approved motor vehicle tax exemptions for Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Good Samaritan Society, Superior, Head Start Child and Family Development Program, Midland Area Agency on Aging, Living Faith Fellowship and Superior Church of the Nazarene.

Kylie Kinley presented the board with an update on the Southern Plains Extension Board.

She asked the board to approve the appointment of Mary Scroggins, City of Superior Director of Economic Development, to serve the remainder of the term of Cameron Vyzourek who has resigned. The term expires Dec. 31, 2022. The board approved the appointment.

Darren Blackstone served at his last meeting as a board member. He opted not to seek reelection. He was asked for his thoughts as he leaves office. He said, “It’s been an interesting four years. There are challenges coming up for the county. The need to conserve funds is important. The board needs to work in harmony. It needs to be intelligent on spending.” Blackstone plans to continue operating his business where he has a new product ready to release from development.

The courthouse will be closed today (Thursday) and Friday for the Christmas holiday. The courthouse will be closed Thursday, Dec 31 and Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 for the New Year holiday.

The board will meet, Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 for its annual reorganization meeting and swearing in of Dave Mussmann as the incoming board member.
