Superior Girls drop thriller to Centennial

December 24, 2020

Shayla Meyer (30) rises above a Centennial defender to launch her shot during Saturday's game at Superior.

The Superior girls basketball team played their best first half of the season against Centennial High School but it wasn't enough to clinch the victory.

In reviewing the game, Coach Jacob Nannen said "We played our best basketball of the season in the first half with energized and fast paced basketball as we went on a huge 19-0 run. We were sprinting the floor and looking to hit ahead to score quickly."

"In the second half, we got away from what was successful for us in the first half. Centennial turned to their zone. We handled the zone well, but struggled to knock down perimeter shots. We need to see more consistency from our team quarter by quarter and game by game to help us reach the next level. We saw a glimpse today of how good we can be, but we cannot afford to keep letting games slip away from us."

The score by quarters was

Superior 9 - 17 - 4 - 10. Final 40.

Centennial 6 - 11 - 12 - 18. Final 47.

Scoring for Superior was Shayla Meyer, 23, Sierra Blackburn 9, Ella Gardner 5 and Atlee Kobza 2. Rebounds Meyer 14; Gardner. 4; Emma Henderson 3; Atlee Kobza. 3; Laci Kirchhof. 1; Blackburn 1.

Assists were Kobza 3, Gardner 3, Meyer 1 and Neah McMeen 1. Ella Gardner was credited with one block.
