Conner Blackstone (30) floats to the basket for Superior during their opening round Runza Holiday Tournament game against Cross County at Superior last Tuesday.

Superior kicked off the Runza Holiday Tournament at home Tuesday. The Cats faced off with C2 No. 10 Cross County.

From the tip, the Cats had their hands full. Cross County came out with physical play Superior was not willing to match. The lead was 20 at half. "We knew Cross County was going to be physical on both ends of the floor. We just didn't match their physicality," said Coach Chadwell. Offensively Superior struggled from the field again. "The most disappointing stat was our turnovers. We have been taking care of the ball as of late, but failed to do that tonight having 19 turnovers," Coach Chadwell said.

The Cats found some fire in the locker room. A 7-0 Superior run was ended by an offensive rebound put back by Cross County. "The boys were challenged at halftime and responded very well. We went on a nice run, but then a non-box out led to Cross County stopping our run. It is little plays like that, that prevent us from being the team we can be. If we can get rid of the 5-10 bad plays per game, we can be scary good," said Coach Chadwell. The final score was 57 to 42 with the Cougars finishing off the Wildcats. Conner Blackstone led the scoring for Superior with 15 points. Superior next plays BDS on Monday after the moratorium. The game will be played at Cross County at 4:15 p.m.
