Contractor will overlay failing Edgar spur

Nuckolls County Board

February 4, 2021

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. All three commissioners were present. The board was presented with a light agenda to work through.

Jeff Wagner, the county highway superintendent, reported that the contractor for the Edgar spur resurfacing project will mitigate issues which developed after the project was completed. Improper compacting led to the development of numerous low spots in the road. The contractor will mill off a half an inch of the surface. He will then overlay the road with three-quarters of an inch of asphalt. The repair work will begin when weather conditions permit. Jim Bolte, county roads foreman, reported that all county roads were open and passable.

The county courthouse safety committee submitted their report. They suggested improving the outside lighting of the building. They also recommended installing barricades and signs at the entrance to the handicap ramp to prevent vehicles from parking there.

The board approved a special designated liquor license for the Nuckolls County Ag Society for a beer garden at the county fair.

Because of the Presidents Day holiday, the next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, February 16 at 8:30 a.m.
