SHS sends seven wrestlers to district

Seth Going, head coach of the Superior High School wrestling team had good reason to be proud of his team members at the Class D-2A subdistrict meet at Pleasanton Saturday. The Wildcats entered seven wrestlers in the 11 team event. All seven advanced to the district level matches Saturday. Superior finished in third place with 97 team points. Other teams competing at the sub-district level were Elkhorn Valley, Burwell, Brady, Osmond, Pleasanton, Meridian, Shelton, St. Mary’s, Niobara-Verdigre and Santee.

Hayden Neeman took another first place trip to the podium in the 106 pound weight bracket. He earned 22 team points. He sports a 37-1 season record as he heads into district matches. Neeman expended a total of 29 seconds to win his two matches.

Brett Miller took fourth place in the 113 pound weight class. He earned five team points. His season record is 16-21.

Aaron Allgood took home the second place points in the 138 pound weight bracket. He earned 14 team points for Superior. He sports a 23-20 season record.

Tyler Everhart notched a third place finish in the 145 pound weight bracket to earn a berth at the district meet. He earned eight team points. His season record is 25-19.

Jordan Brown took second place in the 182 pound weight bracket. He was awarded 14 team points. His season record stands at 23-17.

Anders Webber took top honors in the 220 pound weight bracket. He earned 18 team points for the Wildcats. His season record stands at 18-6.

Payton Christiancy held second place in the 285 pound weight bracket. He earned 16 team points. His season record is 38-6.

Going observed that “We continue to learn valuable lessons on the mat. This group of young men have fought hard every week, many facing ranked wrestlers every time we compete. I am excited about the next two weeks of competition.”

Next up is the all-important district meet, Saturday where the seven Wildcat wrestlers look to qualify for the state tournament The district meet is at Elkhorn Valley High School, Tilden, with matches getting underway at 11 a.m.

The state championship tournament is being staged at the CHI Center in Omaha. It begins Wednesday with four rounds of Class D competition with a start time of 5 p.m. There will be the championship round one, quarter-finals and consolations (rounds one and two).

The finals are being held Thursday, Feb 18, beginning at 7 p.m.
