Sandra Bothwell

Sandra Sue Bothwell, the daughter of Nels and Marie (Hansen) Sorensen, was born on Sept. 3, 1939, in Superior, Neb. She died Feb. 7, 2021, at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 5 months, 4 days.

Sandra was a 1956 Hardy High School graduate. She continued her education earning her BSN degree in nursing at the University of Nebraska. On Sept. 30, 1961, she was united in marriage to Lawrence "Lefty" Bothwell at Fairbury, Neb. To this union was born three children. Sandra worked in Superior at the clinic for a year. Then started her 50+ year employment at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior as a nurse and a certified social worker.

She was a member of the Nebraska Healthcare Association, University of Nebraska Nursing Association, Lifetime member of the Nebraska Alumni Association, BPW, former board member of SASA, Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Red Caps, Jobs Daughters Council, and was an active member of the Webber Methodist Church. She enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities, traveling, and visiting Denmark with her siblings. She was an avid reader, liked to crochet and play bridge in her bridge club. She also enjoyed singing, volunteering, and was a huge Nebraska Husker fan.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Marie Sorensen; and her son, Cameron.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Lefty" Bothwell of Superior; daughters, Lori (Bruce) Renz of Superior and Shelly (Tim) Jung of Ashland, Mass .; five grandchildren, Aaron (Denise) Renz, Luke Renz, Chelsea Renz, Zachary Renz and Lydia Jung; one great-granddaughter, Ella Renz; two sisters, JoAnne (Dane) Edwards of Hardy, and Nancy (Gary) Bargen of Overland Park, Kan .; and one brother, Tom (Judy) Sorensen of Hardy; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


Her funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor Brian Faust officiating.

Music will be provided by Stephanie Thayer as the soloist and Carlita Price as the organist.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 to greet friends.

Pallbearers are Aaron Renz, Luke Renz, Zach Renz, Tim Jung, Bruce Renz and Jim Bothwell. Honorary pallbearers are Chelsea Renz, Denise Renz, Ella Renz and Lydia Jung.


Interment will be in the Webber Cemetery at Webber.

Memorials are suggested to go to Brodstone Memorial Hospital Foundation for the Health Care Scholarship.
