Glenda Minnig

 


Glenda Rae Minnig, 74, was born on Oct. 2, 1946, in Fairbury, Neb., the daughter of Aaron and Arlene (Thomas) Porter. Glenda attended Chester-Hubbell Schools, and graduated with the Class of 1965. She then attended Kearney State College for one year.

She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Minnig on Aug. 13, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Chester. To this union of 54 years, two daughters were born, Leesa and Janna.

Glenda worked at Foote’s Cafe in Chester, and helped her father at Hubbell Co-op elevator during harvest. In January of 1989, Glenda started working as a teller at the People’s National Bank in Belleville, retiring 27 years later in January of 2016. Following her retirement, Glenda and Don relocated to Lincoln, Neb., to be closer to their family.

Always on the go, Glenda and Don attended as many of their children, and

later grandson’s events. Glenda offered a helping hand to those in need. Her meticulous nature assured she cared for every detail, keeping many lists, detailed records and thoughtful plans. She kept her faith and her community as cornerstones in her life and enjoyed time with her friends and family, encouraging all those who knew her.


Glenda died at her home in Lincoln with her husband, daughters, and son-in-law at her side on Feb. 4, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Don, daughters, Leesa Minnig and Janna Meyer; her sister, Carole Flanagin of Lincoln; and brother, Jack Porter of Omaha.

Her funeral was Thursday, Feb. 11, at the United Methodist Church in Chester, with Pastor Brian Faust officiating. Burial followed at the Chester City Cemetery.
