L-N girls end season at district final

The Lawrence-Nelson girls basketball team made a strong run through sub-district play, sweeping their bracket, to earn a place in the district final. Unfortunately for them, the other place in their district final bracket was filled with state ranked number two Falls City Sacred heart. When the dust cleared, Lawrence-Nelson was headed home after their 58-31 loss. The game was not as close as the score indicated. Sacred Heart bolted out to a 39-12 lead after two quarters of play. To ensure they stayed ahead they held a 53-19 lead as the final period commenced. The Raiders had no hope of closing that gap. The loss left Lawrence-Nelson with a 10-14 season record.

Emily Miller put up 12 points to lead the Raiders in her final game as a Lawrence-Nelson player. Elsa Jorgensen hit for five points. Avery Mazour netted four points in her final game for the Raiders. McKenzie Ostdiek closed out her Lawrence-Nelson playing career with three points. Emma Epley registered three points. Sydney Biltoft and Aleah Heikkinen scored two points apiece. E. Miller landed six rebounds. Alex Miller claimed three rebounds in her final game for the Raiders. Katelyn Mazour nabbed three rebounds. Heikkinen, A. Mazour and Ostdiek hauled down two rebounds each. Tori Miller latched onto one rebound in her final appearance for the Raiders. Epley and Jorgensen tallied one rebound each.

For seniors A. Mazour, A. Miller, E. Miller, T. Miller and Ostdiek, it was a bittersweet finale to their playing careers. They had experienced the state tournament but were denied the opportunity of a return trip. Their leadership and playing abilities will be missed.
