One-of-a-kind built in Jewell County

Kelly McNichols, a Burr Oak area farmer and craftsman, drove his one-of-a-kind sports car to which he has affixed the Meteor name to town last Wednesday. The automobile was assembled in McNichols shop from either repurposed parts or parts he made. For example the fuel tank is from a Farmall M tractor. What appears to be airplane-style exhaust pipes are from a milking machine. He had the car together last year but during the winter he took it apart and painted it in a combination of blue and gray.

While showing the car to this newspaperʼs editor, a motorist saw the vehicle, detoured out of her way and stopped to ask “What kind is that.” When told it is a one of a kind she told the builder, “Thanks for the eye candy.”

The Meteor is the second auto McNichols has crafted and he has a plan for the third which will utilize an airplane super-charger.

McNicholsʼ interest in airplanes is evident in the vehicles he designs and builds.
