My calendar tells me spring will officially arrive Saturday. I couldn’t be more ready for spring than this year. While we were traveling home a year ago, after winter time in Texas, we heard of the restrictions put in place because of the COVID-19 virus. Tough times followed in all social living, in family times together, in communities and in learning to wear masks in public places. I’ve never sanitized my hands so much in all my life as I’ve done in the past year.

Now, just like the arrival of spring and nature’s new beginnings, the COVID restrictions are starting to be lifted. Winter is officially over, the feel of spring is in the air and we can look forward.

I don’t know about your flower garden but mine is showing promise. The leaves of the daffodils are popping out of the ground, along with the stems of the painted ladies. Even the stems of my roses are turning green. After this week’s rains, the grasses are greening and the wheat fields are blanketed in green. The baby calves are running around their mothers. Outdoor walks can be taken as the spring temperatures arrive. It’s wonderful just to breath in the fresh air.

Garden and flower seed catalogs were reviewed as they arrived in the mail a month ago. Garden plans are being made and potato planting has begun. Baby chicks are available in the farm stores. Birds sense spring has arrived as their sweet songs can be heard more clearly.

If you are a camper, it’s time to get the camper trailer ready to go. Camping fever has arrived. Students are enjoying spring breaks from their studies. Spring school activities cancelled last year may be held this year. Junior-senior proms are planned for the next month or so. High school and college graduation ceremonies are scheduled.

Farmers are gearing up for busy times ahead. Some have started planting oats and fertilizing. Farm families are rejoicing the dry weather is finally over after the heavy weekend rain. How thankful we are.

The best spring happening to look forward to is Easter. Easter is the resurrection of our Savior, a happy, spiritual new beginning. Palm Sunday will be observed in our churches in a little more than a week. Then comes Good Friday, followed by the celebration of Easter.

Spring has sprung!
