L-N Raider Track teams begin season

Emma Epley competes in the 100 meter hurdles at the Sutton Meet. She had the fastest time of those on the Raider team, but did not place. At the Doane Invitational she won the gold medal in the 60 meter hurdles.

The Nebraska High School Spring Sports activities are underway across the state. Different schools began with an indoor meet, some waited for the outdoor meets to begin.

The L-N Raiders took part in the Doane University Invitational Meet to open the season and then were in action at the Sutton Invitational last week Tuesday as the students got acclimated to the sport again.

An interesting part of the track season is that results can vary greatly depending on who is at the Meet. For example: a lot of performances for the Raiders were better at the Sutton Meet than at the Doane Meet, but, individuals were not placing in events because they were not among the highest.

Coach Preston Hild was optimistic after the two meets, noting a lot of improvement. He noted the year is way too early to form many opinions on how the year will turn out.

The results of the two meets was as follows:

DOANE: Because of the indoor setting not all events happen, or were modified. The girls brought home one gold medal with Emma Epley winning the 60 M. Hurdles. The girls finished 5th out of 11 teams. Individual Results: (listed in order of finish time or distance.)

Relays . . . always interesting races at any Track Meet. Above, Nolan Ostdiek is handing off the baton to Cole Troudt for the final part of the 3200 meter relay at the Sutton Invitational right in the middle of hand-offs by three other teams. The boys' team placed second at Doane and fifth at Sutton in spite of lowering their times by more than 20 seconds at Sutton. Gabe Zikmund and Logan Menke make up the other half of the 3200 meter relay team.

Both track teams traveled to Kenesaw on Tuesday for this week's competition.
