This weekend was certainly a family and extended family week-end. Friday night we attended a high school play that our granddaughter had a part in. She is a senior this year and this was the second year she participated in a school play. It was fun watching her on stage playing the part of a mystery book writer. I remembered my high school play years and enjoyed being a part of them. We had a junior play and a senior play where only class members had parts. Now it seems it is the “in thing” to have it open to students in all grades to become play actors. They are called “All School” plays. It is a good experience to take part in the school plays. The best part of our granddaughter’s play came after it was over. She made it a point to come out into the audience to find family members and gave them all hugs. Thankfully, her grandfather and I received one of those welcomed hugs. How proud we are of her.

The following day found us on the way to a special wedding of a grand niece. She and her future husband had planned to have their wedding last fall, and had already sent out invitations, but then COVID prevented them from holding their church wedding. The wedding was put on hold until April. Then new invitations had to be sent out and the long awaited date finally arrived.

It was hard to believe my grand niece was at the age to marry, as so many memories flooded me of her as a baby and as a young child coming to visit at my home and other family gatherings. We attended many birthday parties honoring her from the time she was a year old until she was in junior high. There was the time I was invited to come to her home to see her dressed in her prom dress and on her way with her date to the school function. There were the volleyball and basketball games we attended to watch her participate in. Where did the time go? Now she was escorted down the church aisle by her proud father, all grown up and looking beautiful in her princess style wedding dress. She and her husband now have their own home and their future ahead of them. Her brother served as the groomsman, and her older sister served as her matron of honor. To see her siblings all grown up too is hard to imagine. Another grand niece served her cousin as a bride’s matron. She is set to have a baby within the next month and a half. It just seemed like yesterday that I got to take care of that grand niece as a baby and rocking her to sleep. With the birth of this newest family member, my sister will become a great-grandmother and I a great-great aunt.

Saturday’s wedding was beautiful. It was fun seeing all the cousins, second cousins, nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Visiting was done trying to catch up on all of their latest happenings. It was a day to remember.

As the years pass, I’m certain there will be more happy occasions like these. I’m certainly looking forward to them!
